To Boost The Capacity of Tigershark Engine,Chrysler Will Invest $52m in Michigan Plants

US based automaker Chrysler Group is planning to invest about $52m in its Michigan engine plants at Trenton and Dundee to boost the capacity of Tigershark engine.

Of the overall investment, $11.5m will be spent in Trenton North facility for the addition of a new assembly line for the four-cylinder Tigershark engine.

The Dundee engine plant will receive about $40.5m for transforming a line to machine cranks, heads and blocks to support the production of Tigershark at Trenton facility.

According to the US automaker, the Dundee engine plant will also continue to assemble the Tigershark engine, together with the 1.4L FIRE engine as well as the World Gas Engine.

Chrysler Powertrain Manufacturing vice president and head Brian Harlow said that the investment would support serving the growing demand for the company's products.

"In this case, we are fortunate that we had an existing facility that could accommodate the additional capacity needs for Tigershark and one that has the know-how to support that additional production," Harlow said.

The new Trenton Tigershark line and the Dundee line conversion are anticipated to commence production by the end of the third quarter of 2013.

Chrysler's current investment will bring its total investments in US facilities to about $5.2bn since June 2009.
