It’s reported that the US steelmaker Nucor announced its net earnings in the second quarter of this year totaled US$85.1 million, increasing slightly from a quarter ago but falling by 24% in comparison of net earnings of US$112.3 million in the same period of a year ago.
Nucor stated that its second-quarter operating performance in steel segment dropped from a quarter ago due to weakness in sheet steel.
In the second quarter of this year, Nucor realized net sales of US$4.67 billion, up by 3% from US$4.55 billion in a quarter ago but falling by 8% year on year.
Meanwhile, its average sales prices in the second quarter were up slightly from the first quarter but decreasing by7% year on year.
For the third quarter, Nucor expects modest improvement in sales earnings, supported by improvements in steel sheet prices.
