London Eye Will Host a Lightshow Powered by Tweets Every Evening

Olympic Tweets to Light up The London Eye

It has been revealed that the London Eye will host a lightshow powered by tweets every evening during the Olympics and Paralympics.

Taking place every evening at 9pm,the lightshow will be a reflection of 24 hours'worth of Olympic-related activity on Twitter and will be 24 minutes long.

The first lightshow will begin on Thursday 19 July, with a sequence of varied colours to represent the mood of the nation, according to sponsor EDF Energy.

The lights will be gold, silver or bronze to mirror the achievements of Team GB and the medals they bring home that day.

The tweets will be picked up by any mention of the Olympics or Paralympics as well as the hash tag#Energy2012.

The tweet-powered lightshow is possible due to an algorithm developed by technology studio SOsolimited that linguistically analyses tweets about the games from the UK.

The tweets will be tracked and divided in to positive and negative conversations. These will then be filtered into a programme which converts them into the lightshow.

Justin Manor, founder of Sosolimited, who developed the technology for the lightshow said,"The algorithm we developed converts real-time social emotions into colour and motion–tweets to light show.We distil 24 hours of action into a 24 minute visual concert that embodies the emotional peaks and troughs of the day."
