Compostable and sustainable bioplastics manufacturer Cereplast has received patent protection for biodegradable nanopolymer compositions and biodegradable articles from the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
USPTO-issued patent 8,389,614 will apply for the field of biodegradable polymers of the company.
The patent, which describes the biodegradable compositions including polylactic acid and other components, incorporates nanofillers that improve the material's physical and thermal properties.
Cereplast chairman and CEO Frederic Scheer said, "Protecting the intellectual property of the Company is a high priority and is an important part of our long-term growth strategy, as is creating new grades of bioplastic resin that expand the properties available to meet the ever-growing needs of the marketplace."
