Automotive major General Motors (GM) is calling back 780,000 crossover SUVs, most of them in North America, for defective rear power lift gates and another 155,000 cars in India to address wiring problem linked to remote.
For North America, the recall encompasses Buick Enclave (2008-2012), Chevrolet Traverse (2009-2012), GMC Acadia (2007-2012) and Saturn Outlook (2007-2010), as reported in Reuters.
The gas struts pose danger when dirt gets in, resulting in malfunction, the company said and added that those built from 2012 have a modified arrangement and less prone to defect. However, the company admitted that there were 56 reports of people sustaining wounds.
The company has 56 reports of injuries, GM said in an emailed statement on Friday.
The recall of the total number of vehicle comprises 690,000 in the US and 36,000 in Canada while the rest are in Mexico.
In India, GM will make one of the biggest entries in the history of recall in India, calling back Chevrolet Spark and Beat hatchbacks and Enjoy multi-purpose vehicles made from 2007 to 2014. The technical snag lies in the gadget that helps owners open cars without a mechanical key.
"The remote keyless entry accessory meets all the relevant regulatory standards; however, GM India has been made aware of some isolated cases where certain Chevrolet Spark, Beat and Enjoy vehicles were fitted with a faulty accessory," the company said in a statement.
