Olymel to Invest $3m to Expand Pork Processing Plant in Quebec, Canada

Olymel has announced that it will expand its pork processing facility in Beauce in Canada’s Quebec province with an investment of $3m.

The Canadian pork and poultry meat producer will use the investment for installing new equipment in the facility located at the Vallée-Jonction. Expansion of the plant is set to create 160 new jobs.

The new equipment to be introduced is a ham deboning table which would need redevelopment of the butchering and chilled fresh products storage room at the facility.

Expansion work at the Vallée-Jonction plant is scheduled to begin next month and will go on till February 2017. Olymel has ensured that its normal production activities will not affected by the expansion work.

Olymel CEO Réjean Nadeau said that the investment will allow the facility to serve its markets more efficiently.

Nadeau added: “This change is also an integral part of the reorganization of Olymel's fresh pork sector in Quebec with a view to optimizing performance and improving efficiency.

“The addition of 160 new jobs over and above the current workforce will bring the number of employees at our facility in Vallée-Jonction to nearly 1200, which boosts the economic impact of our operations in the Beauce and the greater Québec City region.”

Olymel’s Vallée-Jonction plant serves the Japanese market with fresh chilled pork.

It also supplies raw materials to its pork further processing facility located in St-Henri-de-Lévis, Quebec.

Last month, Olymel announced that it would invest $11m for expanding and modernizing the St-Henri-de-Lévis plant.
