Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. today announced that the Nissan Teana received the 2014-2015 Japan New Car Assessment Program (JNCAP) Five Star Award, the highest rating in JNCAP's new overall safety performance evaluation.
The Japan New Car Assessment Program (JNCAP), which started in 1995, is a comprehensive car safety performance evaluation announced annually by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism and the National Agency for Automotive Safety and Victims' Aid.
The Teana's shock-absorbent body, high-strength cabin and six airbags produced record results in occupant protection performance. The car also attained the first ever perfect score in the rear-end collision neck protection performance test thanks to front seats with optimized rigidity balance between the headrest and seatback frame that reduces stress on the neck during rear-end collisions.. The Teana's awarding of the top rating was also due to the vehicle's body construction designed to mitigate injuries to pedestrians in the unfortunate event of a collision.
In the area of safety technology, Nissan innovates under its Safety Shield concept, an advanced, proactive approach to safety issues based on the idea that cars should help protect people. Along with the development of collision safety technology, Nissan uses preventive safety technology, including its Emergency Braking System, Emergency Assist for Pedal Misapplication, Lane Departure Warning and Blind Spot Warning. By producing vehicles that support the driver, Nissan aims to help further reduce the number of traffic accidents.
*The new overall safety performance evaluation introduced in 2011 assesses comprehensive safety performance, with scores from one to five stars based on the total rating of occupant protection performance (100 points), pedestrian protection performance (100 points) and seatbelt remainder (8 points).
