Supermarket chain Sainsbury's has issued a recall of its wholemeal bread after metal pieces were found in loaves.
The recall of 45p Wholemeal Bread Medium Sliced and Thick Sliced was made after its supplier made a complaint, reported Foodmanufacture.co.uk.
The Food Standards Agency (FSA) has stated that the presence of metal fragments poses a health risk and has adjudged the bread unsafe for consumption.
With a pack size of 800g, the Sainsbury's Wholemeal Bread Medium Sliced and Sainsbury's Wholemeal Bread Thick Sliced carry 'Best before' date of 19 January 2016.
The recall is limited to only these products and no other Sainsbury's products are affected.
The company's customer notice reads: "We have been made aware of the possible presence of tiny metal pieces in a small number of the above products.
"As a precautionary measure, we are asking customers who have purchased this product with the best before date, to return it to their nearest Sainsbury's store, where they will receive a full refund.
"No other products or date codes are affected by this issue, and we apologise for the inconvenience this may cause."
The FSA has advised customers who have purchased the affected items to avoid consuming them. The recalled products can be returned at the store of purchase for a full refund.
