Ajinomoto to Launch Japanese-Style Ramen in North America

Japanese food company Ajinomoto will launch its Japanese-style ramen in North America as part of its strategy to bolster its frozen noodles business in the region.

While also expanding its frozen foods business in the region, Ajinomoto said that the ramen product will be sold across the continent from October through the sales network of its California-based subsidiary Ajinomoto Windsor.

It’s another subsidiary the Ajinomoto Toyo Frozen Noodles, based in Portland, Oregon will manufacture the Japanese-style ramen. The frozen noodle production company is a joint venture formed by Ajinomoto Group and Toyo Suisan Kaisha in 2015.

Ajinomoto will also be launching a frozen noodle kit comprising frozen noodles along with a separately packaged soup for food service customer besides products for supermarkets and warehouse clubs.

To further strengthen the Asian/Ethnic food category, the Japanese company will be rolling out Japanese dishes based on the Japanese-style ramen theme.

Earlier this month, the company’s Brazilian subsidiary Ajinomoto do Brasil Indústria e Comércio de Alimento began sales of an amino acid sports supplement, branded as Brazil of amino Vital Gold.

In August, Ajinomoto announced an investment of JPY2.4bn ($23m) to expand its Nong Khae Factory in Saraburi Province in Thailand to increase production capacity of Ros Dee flavor seasoning powder.

Headquartered in Tokyo, Ajinomoto, which was founded in 1909, manufactures seasonings, processed foods, beverages and also amino acids, specialty chemicals and pharmaceuticals in 27 countries and regions.

In fiscal 2015, the Japanese company recorded net sales revenue of JPY1,185.9bn ($9.87bn).
