144 Units of 2013 Model Is Recalled by GM

US-based automobile manufacturer General Motors (GM) has recalled 144 units of 2013 model year Buick Encore crossover sports utility vehicles (SUV), over a defective steering column.

The recall affects the vehicles manufactured during 09 December 2012 through 28 December 2012 and are having heated steering wheels.

Scarcity of a part had led the company to make some Buick Encore vehicles with non-heated steering wheels that were refitted with the required heated steering wheels, which were improperly tightened.

GM spokesman Alan Adler said all 59 customers who have taken Encore deliveries have been contacted and their vehicles are being inspected.

"The 85 unsold vehicles are being inspected at dealerships, and none have been found to have the issue," Adler said.

The problem was discovered by the company on 20 March 2013, in a vehicle same as the Buick Encore assembled at the plant in Korea.
