Penford Food Ingredients plans to invest$10m to upgrade its plant in Richland,Washington,US,with a new starch processing technology.
The project involves remodelling or replacing existing rooms to install new equipment,and adding a new packaging room.
The upgrade is expected to be completed this fall,following which,the company will produce new starch-based products.About five positions are likely to be added to the facility's existing workforce of 20,reported Tri-cityherald.com.
Penford,based in Colorado,US,manufactures specialty natural-based ingredient systems for food and industrial ingredient applications.It develops and manufactures ingredients with starch as a base.
The starch products are manufactured primarily from corn and potatoes.In 2011,the company sold more than 150 million pounds of starch.
