New Zealand-based multinational dairy co-operative Fonterra has unveiled 100% Light Proof - a new milk bottle which is made with the triple-layer technology.
Developed by Anchor innovations, the 100% lightproof bottle consists of white, black and white layers, made from recyclable material. This new packaging will keep the milk fresh and retain its taste for a longer time.
Commenting on the launch, Fonterra New Zealand Brands managing director Peter McClure said that the company has developed the triple-layer bottle technology backed by a research to apply the concept of light proof packaging to fresh milk and cream.
Fonterra New Zealand Brands group marketing manager Craig Irwin said, "The key insight around light damage is that even a small amount of light is enough to start the process. Packaging options such as fresh milk tetra cartons and white opaque bottles allow between 7% to 25% of light."
"We have also observed that milk consumption is declining. This innovation is about reversing that trend and giving people more enjoyment from their milk, and, for many, a reason to reconsider drinking fresh white milk altogether," added Irwin.
Fonterra noted that the new Anchor triple-layer, Light Proof bottle is light weight, and easily recyclable. The new bottle will be available beginning 8 April.
Fonterra provides various ingredient products, including milk powders, casein and caseinates, whey protein concentrates and isolates, milk protein concentrates and isolates, dried milk, butter and cream products, cheese, hydrolysates, dairy complex lipids, probiotics, functional beverages, and other products derived from milk or milksolids.
The company offers its products for beverages, nutrition bars, organic and sports nutrition products, and yoghurt under the Anchor, Anlene, and Anmum brand names..
