The new-look Camry will be the last model to be built at the facility, as the company has planned to cease operations at the plant by the end of 2017.

At the Altona plant, Toyota will produce the Camry and Camry Hybrid alongside the facelift Aurion.

Toyota Australia president Dave Buttner said: "Although this will be the last car we build in Australia, we have vowed that it will be the best.

"That means we are aiming to achieve the best safety, quality and efficiency results when compared to other Camry-manufacturing plants around the world."

The company is spending $108m to produce the new-look Camry, including A$23.6m ($18.4m) contribution from the federal government and the Victorian Government.

The Altona plant is expected to build around 90,000 vehicles this year. Approximately 70% of the vehicles will be exported to the Middle East as well as New Zealand, South Pacific Islands and Thailand.

According to Toyota, the new-look Camry features significant changes in exterior, compared to the current model.

Toyota Australia currently has a workforce of 3,900. The company will cut the head count to approximately 1,300 after manufacturing ends at Altona plant.
