Nutella-maker Ferrero International’s Canadian subsidiary is planning to expand its Ontario factory in Brantford to begin production of three new products.
The company is looking to invest CAD36.1m ($27.6m) to scale up its operations at the factory.
The expansion project in Brantford is expected to be wrapped up by August 2017.
Globally, the Italian chocolate-maker has 22 plants that manufacture Nutella, Tic-Tac, Kinder Surprise, Kinder Beuno, Raffaello along with a wide range of other confectionary products.
To support its expansion plans, the Ontario government has given a grant of $1.1m to the confectionery group through the Southwestern Ontario Development Fund.
A Ferrero Canada spokesperson said: “We appreciate the support of the Ontario government and the people of this province. Brantford has proven to be a great manufacturing location for us and a catalyst for us to expand our business and grow our presence in North America.”
The company now intends to use the funds to set up state-of-the art automated manufacturing equipment and machinery to produce its additional products which will be distributed in North America.
The expansion will also result in the creation of 55 new jobs at the factory, which currently employs 831 people.
Established in 2006, the Brantford factory manufactures Ferrero Nutella, Tic-Tac and Ferrero Rocher brands for the Northern American and Australian markets.
