American food processing company Heinz has announced job cuts at its Kitt Green site in Wigan, UK, as part of a restructuring process.
According to the company, almost 71 roles will be axed at its baked beans factory where some of the current processes are being automated.
Heinz spokesperson told just-food: "As part of our on-going drive to increase competitiveness and improve our efficiency we are investing in projects to automate the movement of finished goods from the production line and also to further optimise our can making operations and ways of working."
The company has also received funding for various voluntary redundancies for non-management operations as well as non-management distribution center staff.
Heinz's latest decision comes on the heels of its previously announced plans to shut its Norwich-based Aunt Bessie's plant.
The company has recently invested money to automate parts of production line and optimise workflows.
