Clean Energy Fuels, a provider of natural gas for transportation, has commercially distributed Redeem, a renewable natural gas vehicle fuel that is made from waste streams such as landfills, large dairies and sewage plants, directly to fleets around the country.
The company has also distributed the renewable natural gas at 35 public Clean Energy stations throughout California.
Many cars, taxis, shuttles and industrial fleets in the state are now running on this new fuel. It is 90% cleaner than diesel and 100% renewable.
Redeem is a renewable natural gas vehicle fuel, often referred to as biomethane. Derived from biogenic methane or biogas, Redeem is produced at the company's biomethane production facilities in Dallas, Texas; Canton, Michigan.
The company is also establishing a third production plant in Millington, Tennessee, with plans to develop other production facilities across the country.
Clean Energy Fuels president and CEO Andrew Littlefair said: "Our goal is to produce and distribute 15 million gallons of Redeem in our first year which can make significant progress towards achieving California's climate change goals and show that this is a viable, cleaner and abundant alternative fuel source for our future."
