US based company, A123 systems has unveiled a new lithium ion battery technology, the Nanophosphate EXT, which will enable the pack to operate at extreme temperatures without requiring thermal management.
The electric vehicle battery packs manufacturer claims that the new technology will reduce the cost of electric vehicles.
The Nanophosphate EXT will decrease or eliminate the requirements of heating or cooling systems, as well as offer new opportunities for automotive and other markets, in addition to increase in the use of rechargeable batteries.
The new technology will offer increased power at low temperatures which is expected to enhance the cold-cranking capabilities of the company's lithium ion 12V Engine Start battery.
Further, Nanophosphate EXT is expected to enable automakers to reduce cost, lessen weight and enhance reliability, which will further increase efficiency and reduce system complexity without dropping vehicle performance, battery life or driving range.
