Production of the new GLC Coupe has started at Daimler's Mercedes-Benz plant in Bremen, Germany.
It is the second new model to be launched at the facility this year, expanding its production portfolio to ten models with the GLC Coupé.
The German luxury automaker has plans to strengthen the role of Breman manufacturing plant as one of the main production sites for the model series within its production framework.
Daimler said in Mercedes-Benz GLC Coupe, it wants to transfer the winning formula of mid-size SUV to the coupe and to a more compact segment.
The GLC Coupe has been designed, incorporating standard sports suspension, 4MATIC permanent all-wheel drive and 9G-TRONIC automatic transmission.
At Breman plant, Daimler has introduced a new seating fixture for workers. Designed to be ergonomic, the fixture will allow the worker easy access to places which were earlier difficult to access owing to typical coupe roofline.
Workers can now easily install front and rear trim parts in particular. Individual body parts of the coupe are also manufactured in the same workshop.
The body of the coupe is produced at the plant's body shop in a resourceful and cost-saving manner. The company says that by optimally reusing production facilities from previous GLK model series made it possible to limit the need for expenditure on new capital equipment.
Mercedes-Benz Bremen plant head Peter Theurer said: "The launch of the GLC Coupé delivers the latest proof of the versatile, competitive and efficient way in which we produce in Bremen.
"Within just a few weeks, we have successfully integrated the launch of two brand-new models into ongoing series production at the plant, something that is only possible with a highly motivated and expertly qualified team."
