Wabco, a tier-one supplier to the commercial vehicle industry, has collaborated with the German automotive parts manufacturer Huf Electronics Bretten to develop next generation tire pressure monitoring system for trucks, buses and trailers.
The collaboration aims at the development of a new integrated vehicle tire pressure monitoring (IVTM) system that can be internally or externally mounted tire sensors on the new commercial vehicles.
Wabco plans to use the tire temperature monitoring feature of the internal sensor technology from Huf Electronics in the new IVTM.
Wabco Vehicle Dynamics and Control Systems vice president Bodo Klein said the company will develop technologies for tire pressure monitoring in commercial vehicles and offer a choice of internal and external tire sensors.
"Wabco strives to deliver a world of difference through innovations that enable vehicle makers and aftermarket customers to benefit from Wabco's newest advancements in vehicle safety and efficiency," Klein added.
Tire pressure monitoring systems detect the tire leakages to enable drivers to park the vehicles safely, while helping to reduce vehicle downtime.
According to the company, the tire leakages are the most frequent reason for commercial vehicle downtime and the proper inflation extends tire life by about 20% as well as reduces fuel consumption by about 2%.
