Capital Biotech, a French-start up, has launched a device, ‘Halal Kit’ to test the presence of pork in a dish within a few minutes.
The introduction of the device into the market is expected to help Capital Biotech to have a portion of the multi-billion Halal food market, which is estimated to be $6.8bn in France alone.
The product was launched recently and the company has secured almost $135,000 in orders, reports AFP quoting Capital Biotech co-founder Jean-Francois Julien.
The test kit is priced at priced at $8.63 and is rmeant for only one use.
It reveals only the presence of pork but does not give complete information related to animal slaughter.
Capital Biotech claims it received orders from Turkey, Chile and Indonesia for the Halal Test device.
The firm plans to roll out tests for gluten, peanut or milk. Authorities are yet to examine the reliability of the testing method.
