Voith Turbo will provide Gillig, a manufacturer of heavy-duty transit buses, with its 60 DIWA.5 automatic transmissions this summer.
Gillig will use DIWA transmissions for its clean diesel buses bound for the Port Authority of Allegheny County (PAT).
The DIWA.5 transmission by Voith Turbo features a long first gear that provides smooth gear shifts and helps reduce wear and tear, while facilitating comfort driving in city transit buses.
It also has a hydraulic torsional vibration damper (hydrodamp) to help reduce engine vibration.
In addition, DIWA's full flow oil circuit lets oil temperature and transmission components operate at a low temperature.
Voith Turbo regional sales manager Joe Dalik said: "Pittsburgh is already benefitting from DIWA technology, as at least 325 PAT buses currently utilize a DIWA transmission."
"With this new order for Gillig buses, Pittsburgh will further supplement their fleet with fuel-efficient technology that will last for years. DIWA transmissions were developed specifically for transit bus applications and they have proven themselves as a long wearing fuel efficient option for the market."
