Ford is planning to stop producing vehicles in Australia by 2016 following slump in sales in the country, according to a report by the International Business Times.
The automaker is considering to reduce production at its plants in Victoria by 15% due difficulty in meeting Euro 5 emissions standards.
Stephen Longley, who works for PPB Advisory, told ABC local radio that it's going to be a slow death, or nearly a death by 1,000 cuts for some of the suppliers.
"There's been no announcements. The expectation though, is that this will happen," Longley said.
"Decisions are being made on the basis that Ford Australia will definitely not be around from 2016."
Ford had its presence in Australia since 195 and first assembled its Model T in Geelong, Victoria.
It is expected that in addition to the employees at the Ford Motor Co.'s plants, people who are working for suppliers will also lose their jobs by 2016.
