American automobile manufacturer General Motors (GM) has recalled 2.4 million vehicles in the US under four different recalls.
The recalls include 1,339,355 units of Buick Enclave, Chevrolet Traverse, GMC Acadia medium crossovers of 2009-2014 model years and Saturn Outlooks from 2009-2010 due to defective front safety lap belt cables that could potentially wear off and separate.
About 1,131,113 units of the previous generation four-speed automatic transmission 2004-2008 model Chevrolet Malibu and 2005-2008 model Pontiac G6 cars have been recalled for replacing a shift cable that could wear out as a result of mismatch of gear position and shift lever indication.
The company also recalled 1,402 units of 2015 model Cadillac Escalades and Escalade ESV because of an insufficiently heated plastic weld that affects deployment of the passenger side air bag in the event of a crash.
GM will replace retention clips attaching the generator fuse block in 58 units of 2015 model year Chevrolet Silverado HD and GMC Sierra HD full-size pickups.
According to GM, its expects to take a charge of about $400m in the second quarter of 2014 for the cost of recall-related repairs that includes earlier disclosed $200m charge for previous five recalls.
