Huawei,China's largest telecoms network supplier,has said it will procure£650m worth of products and services in the UK over the next five years.
The company will also invest another£650m in its UK business operations to support the roll-out of LTE mobile and broadband services in the UK.
"The UK is one of the most important European markets in which Huawei has invested,"said Ren Zhengfei,Huawei founder and CEO.
"The UK is a centre of innovation,has a highly skilled workforce,and is respected internationally for the quality of its legal and educational systems.It is for these reasons we have selected the UK as the location for a number of our centres of excellence,"said Ren.
He was speaking after a meeting this week with the Prime Minister David Cameron and Lord Green,Minister of State for Business to confirm the investment and to outline the company's long-term commitment to the UK through further investment in research and development and local procurement.
Huawei currently employs over 800 people in the UK and has today committed to increasing its workforce to over 1,500 by 2017.
It will invest in a number of global centres of technical and financial excellence in the UK.
"I welcome this and I want to see more companies invest in the UK as we work to achieve sustainable and balanced growth within our economy,"said David Cameron.
