Volkswagen Has Disclosed a New Engine Manufaturing Plant in Mexico

German automobile manufacturer Volkswagen has opened a new engine manufaturing plant in Silao, Mexico, which marks the 100th engine facility for the carmaker worldwide.

The carmaker expects to improve its position in North America with the 148acre plant that will produce and supply TSI engines for the company's vehicle plants in Puebla and Chattanooga.

Volkswagen Aktiengesellschaft Board of Management Chairman Prof. Dr. Martin Winterkorn said that with the new plant the company is driving its ambitious major North American offensive forward.

"Over the next three years the Volkswagen Group will be investing more than $5 billion in North America alone," Winterkorn added.

The group plans to improve its position with customized models to meet the North American market demands, which include the Jetta, Beetle, and the new US Passat.

Volkswagen de México CEO Andreas Hinrichs said: "Volkswagen is once again generating strong momentum for growth and employment in the Mexican automotive industry."

The manufacturing plant features energy-efficient lighting to maintain ample light levels and absorb the heat generated by the lighting system.
