The new iPhone sales in China outpaced those in the US for the first time, helped by the Chinese Lunar New Year celebration and it boost Apple's profits in Q1. Apple Inc beat Wall Street's revenue and profit forecasts on Monday on the back of surging iPhone sales, especially in China, but it gave no sales figures for its new Apple Watch.

Up to now, China has officially overtaken Europe as Apple's second biggest territory. While Europe generated a not-inconsiderable $12.2 billion for Apple in Q2 of 2015, China for the first time trumped that figure. In fact, with $16.8 billion, it completely battered it.

China is the world's largest smartphone market and a very importance turf that every phone manufacturer will actively compete on. Although China's market scale is large, the purchasing power there is still not on par with that in the US, making it hard to tell when China will become Apple's No.1 market.
