Conestoga Meat Packers Boosts Production Capacity of Facility in The Kitchener-Waterloo

Conestoga Meat Packers, a Breslau, Ontario-based pork processor, is set to boost production capacity of its facility in the Kitchener-Waterloo region by one-third, while creating 100 new jobs.

The company will invest more than C$14m ($13.6m) to add 25,000ft2 cooler space at the plant, where it will install a new refrigeration equipment. Currently, the facility processes about 14,000 hogs per week.

Conestoga Meat Packers has received $1.5m in support from the Southwestern Ontario Development Fund for the expansion project.

Minister of Economic Development, Trade and Employment Dr. Eric Hoskins said, "Conestoga is a major employer in the Kitchener-Waterloo region and plays a vital role in connecting Ontario farmers with markets for their products both here at home and abroad."

Conestoga Meat Packers president Arnold Drung said, "Today's announcement supports the next phase in the ongoing development of Conestoga Meat Packers."

"As we grow and invest in the latest industry technologies, our overall goal remains the same - to provide the very best in great tasting, nutritious Ontario pork to our customers around the world."

Conestoga processes pork for the retail and foodservice markets in the region as well as for export to about 30 countries, including Japan, Korea, the US and Russia.
