Dell has dropped two places to fourth largest PC supplier in Western Europe as it strives to transform from PC manufacturer to services organisation.
According to Gartner's latest PC shipment figures, a total of 13.6 million units were shipped in Western Europe in the second quarter of 2012 – a 2.4% decline compared with the equivalent period in 2011.
HP held the top spot, although it experienced a 13% drop in its market share to 20.2%.
Dell's market share fell 13%, to 8.7%.
The big winners, according to Gartner's statistics, were Acer, which grew 15.3% to become Western Europe's second biggest PC supplier, and Asus, which grew 42.3% and took third place.
"Asus excelled at diversifying its product portfolio, which includes mobile PCs and desktop PCs, and it is now expanding into Ultrabooks and tablets, all of which are marketed at attractive prices," said Meike Escherich, principal analyst at Gartner.

As Computer Weekly has previously reported, Dell is transforming from a PC company to a solutions business.
However, Escherich said its transformation from a PC supplier to a solutions provider for professional markets was ongoing and had yet to result in an increase in market share.
Dell suffered its biggest fall (23.2%) in the UK, with its consumer business recording a decline of nearly 40%. Despite the drop, Dell retained its number two position in the UK.
Overall, the UK PC market remained weak, according to Gartner.
"It was depressed across the board, with both the consumer and professional sectors exhibiting decline," said Ranjit Atwal, research director at Gartner.
