Wal-Mart Is Recalling Donkey Meat Snack Products Sold at Some of Its Chinese Outlets

Wal-Mart, an American multinational retail corporation, is recalling donkey meat snack products sold at some of its Chinese outlets after it was found that they contained DNA of other animals.

The retailer stated that it is withdrawing 'Five Spice' donkey meat from its stores in Jinan, Shandong province.

The move comes after an investigation revealed that the implicated products were made from fox meat.

Wal-Mart China president and CEO Greg Foran said, "It is a deep lesson (for us) that we need to continue to increase investment in supplier management."

The company stated that Dezhou Fujude Food had supplied the donkey meat containing fox DNA.

Officials of Dezhou Fujude have been put under criminal detention and Wal-Mart is considering legal action against responsible parties.

Foran was quoted by BloombergBusinessweek as saying, "Walmart will spare no effort in fulfilling its obligations as a retailer and in working with government authorities in their investigation.

"Walmart commits to further enhance sample testing in the future."
