Taipei,Oct.18,2012--In spite of fewer workdays in October,MediaTek Inc.,Taiwan's No.1 fabless IC company,is estimated to ship over 20 million smartphone chipsets in the month and at least 60 million sets in the fourth quarter alone, increasing the possibility for the company to hike annual goal the third time for this year.
Industry executives estimated the company to ship 130 million smartphone chipsets by the end of this year, retaining the No.1 title in Asia. The projection is higher than 95 million sets the company announced previously at an institutional investors conference.
In the first half of this year, the company shipped 31 million sets and was estimated to ship at least 40 million sets in the third quarter.
The company's operation will remain strong in the normally lukewarm fourth quarter thanks to increased shipments of smartphone chips, according to company officials.
Industry executives estimated the company's revenue for the first quarter of next year would rise at least 90%from the same quarter this year thanks to the low shipment basis in the first quarter this year. Also, they projected the company's revenue will rise again in the next two months after sinking in October from September.Inventory buildup for Chinese New Year holidays, they estimated, will trigger order hauls in December, giving a boost to the company's revenue for that month.
In September, the company had revenue exceeding NT$11 billion(US$366 million at US$1:NT$30)thanks to robust shipments of smartphone chips, numbered at 19 million sets, and TV chips.Strong shopping during the mainland China's October National Day holidays helped drive up the demands for the chips.
