German carmaker BMW is planning to recall 42,000 vehicles, due to a problem with the airbags.
The recall affects 2002-2003 model year '3 Series' cars fitted with the airbags produced by the Japan based Takata Group during 2001-2002.
Defective airbags in the vehicles, which are fitted on the front passenger-side, may not inflate properly during a collision have prompted the recall.
BMW spokesman Julian Arguelles was quoted by the Los Angeles Times as saying that, "We have not had a single case of a reported failure in our cars, but it is the same problem, yes."
The current recall is a part of major recall in which, Honda, Toyota and Nissan had jointly recalled about three million vehicles.
Earlier recall affected 1.14 million vehicles by Honda that include 107,000 in Canada, total of 1.73 million vehicles of Toyota including 580,000 in North America and about 75,000 units in Canada.
BMW is expected to replace the airbags under the recall.
