The new Thorn factory in Tianjin,China
Zumtobel Group has strengthened its presence in the Asian market with the opening of a new Thorn factory incorporating research and development facilities in China.
Chief Operating Officer(COO)Martin Brandt said of the factory for road and tunnel lighting in Tianjin,China,"We have established a solid basis for the further expansion of our business in Asia.The success factor here is the expansion of our developmental capabilities in China,which is why we have decided to set up our own R&D centre here."
The factory will replace a much smaller lighting factory and will include a production shop and an admininstrative block,as well as a?laboratory and testing facilities.The entire plant takes up an area of 19,000 sq m and has been built with the support of the local development company TEDA(Tianjin Economic-Technological Development Area).
In addition to strengthening the company's position in the Asian market,Zumtobel Group said the factory would?also help it target the global market."At our two luminaire plants in Tianjin and Guangzhou,we are aiming to manufacture not only a comprehensive product portfolio for the local market but also products for our global business",Brandt said.
