LED optical lens maker Ledlink is optimistic about the second quarter, as order visibility is clear to April-May. Telung Tang, CEO of the firm, noted that 2013 capex will reach NT$200 million (US$6.69 million). Market observers believe Ledlink will likely see revenues and profits grow by 30-50% and 50-70% respectively in 2013.
Tang added that lamp shells for omni-directional LED light bulbs have entered test production and will enter volume production in the beginning of April. Demand has been high, said Tang. The firm predicts monthly production of the products will reach 300,000 units, and by June, revenues from plastic lamp shells for omni-directional LED light bulbs are likely to account for 5% of total revenues.
Ledlink reported 2012 average gross margin of 49.25%. In addition, the firm's LED lens modules increased to 2,500 units at the end of 2012 from 1,700 units in 2011. The figure is expected to reach above 3,000 units in 2013.
Tang expects April revenues to show strong growth as the firm adds more staff at its two plants in China. Tang expects performance in the second half of 2013 to be healthy.
Taiwan-based high-power LED lighting firm Edison Opto is also optimistic about market growth in 2013.
According to Chien Jung Wu, chairman of the firm, the firm recently obtained orders from China-based energy-saving lighting firms and the plant in Yangzhou, China, has reached full capacity, hence March revenues are likely to show steady growth.
Wu stated that although LED lighting shipments grew steadily in 2012, significant price drops caused firms to face difficulties in earning profits. Edison Opto reported 2012 consolidated revenues of NT$2.263 billion, down 9.7% on year. Net profits were only NT$29.999 million, representing an on-year fall of 85.7%.
