PT SMART is showcasing a range of innovative ingredients for bakery sector at SIAL Interfood Exhibition in Jakarta.

The event is taking place from 9 to 12 November.

The theme for this year’s event, “A Taste of Spring,” is inspired by the Japan and Korean-style bread, pastry and cake craze sweeping in Indonesia. Professional pastry chef Lenny Limiyati and senior bakers of PT SMART, Koko Hidayat and Kim Gwan Jo (Garry) will bring these products to life through live demonstrations three times daily.

Indonesia's bakery sector is flourishing, driven by a rising middle class, higher disposable incomes among youth, and rapidly changing consumption patterns as consumers adopt convenience-driven urban lifestyles.

The latest statistics from Indonesia’s Bakery Entrepreneur Association (Asosiasi Pengusaha Bakery, or APEBI) show that bakeries are growing at a rate between 10-15 percent annually, with the largest market share captured by the production of soft and fresh breads with high sugar content.

Davy Djohan, General Manager Marketing, Indonesia Industrial and Exports at PT. SMART Tbk, said: “We are excited to bring to life the most exciting trends in the market through our professional chef demonstrations and product showcase.”

“Our latest campaign, ‘A Taste of Spring’, is inspired by Japan and Korean-style bread, pastries and cake. PT SMART’s Filma product range works especially well in the manufacture of soft rolls and milky bread, a growing trend with widespread popularity in Indonesia. Beyond this, Filma products also offer a range of applications from bread and bakery through to biscuits and cream fillings.”

The campaign roll-out was undertaken in key cities in Indonesia this year from March to September 2016 and was marked with grand baking demonstrations in Bandung, Semarang, Medan and Jakarta.

More than 600 participants from the small & medium scale industry and modern bakery participated in the demonstrations.

“The bakery industry in Indonesia continues to grow at a fast pace. Demand for our margarine and shortening portfolio is steadily increasing with packaged snacks and fresh baked goods in high demand.

"Thanks to the nationwide trend towards urbanisation – and with it, higher incomes –consumers are expressing a strong preference for freshly baked bread products in a distinct shift away from traditional staples such as rice,” said Davy.

PT SMART’s branded products on show include Filma, as well as the other brand portfolio, such asPalmboom, Palmvita and Menara; which will be pre-launched with a new pack design. These branded products are widely available in Indonesia as well as selected ASEAN countries, such as Thailand, Phillippines, Myanmar and Vietnam.

The new packaging and improved product fomulations will be officially introduced to customers during the first quarter of 2017.
