Canadian agribusiness Richardson International has acquired Margarine Golden Gate – Michca for an undisclosed amount, in a move to increase food manufacturing capabilities.
With this investment, Richardson has secured Golden Gate's two margarine and shortening manufacturing plants in Ontario.
Golden Gate produces margarines and shortenings for the industrial, food service, retail and export markets.
Richardson International Quality Assurance and Manufacturing senior vice-president Pat Van Osch said: "Combined, these facilities will strengthen our capability as a national supplier and increase our capacity to serve all segments of the market, including retail, food service and industrial.
"This is the next step in the evolution of our packaged food products business."
Earlier in 2011, Richardson bought Innovative Foods, a margarine and shortening manufacturing business with plants in Mississauga, Ontario and Sussex, New Brunswick.
Richardson employs over 2,500 people and is involved in canola processing, refining and packaging operations.
"With our integrated Richardson network, we have the unique ability to ensure quality food products right through the value chain, from the farm gate to end-use consumer markets," Van Osch added.
