Simmons Foods Is Planning to Suspend Operations at Its Manufacturing Plant in The US

Chicken processor Simmons Foods is planning to suspend operations at its manufacturing plant in the US city of Jay, citing inconsistent supply of hens and underutiltisation of the plant.

Around 200 people working at the plant will be moved to other locations in Southwest City, Missouri; as well as cities of Decatur, Siloam Springs and Van Buren in Arkansas.

Simmons Poultry Group president and chief operating officer Gary Murphy was quoted by grandlakenews as saying: "This hasn't been an easy decision, and it's only after carefully considering all possible options for the business that we came to this decision.

"We have a wonderful team of people at Jay and we're grateful for their efforts during this time. We'd also like to thank the City and community of Jay for their support."

However, Simmons Energy Solutions, a propane distributor, will continue to operate in the region.

Simmons Foods processes and packages chicken. The company offers boneless skinless tenderloins, breaded tenderloins, chicken wings, and boneless skinless breasts in fully cooked, ready to cook, frozen or fresh, marinated, glazed, grill marked, breaded, and other types.
