General Motors Will Manufacture Chevrolet Bolt at Detroit Plant

General Motors is planning to build its Chevrolet brand’s $30,000 electric car Bolt at a small-car plant at Orion Township in north of Detroit.

The company previously unveiled the car at the Detroit auto show and has set a production target of 25,000-30,000 cars a year, reported Reuters citing sources familiar with the matter.

The car has range of 200 miles and is expected to go on sale early next year.

Chevrolet sold around 18,800 units of its $35,000 car Volt hybrid electric cars last year, which is powered by a battery and has a small gasoline engine which helps the vehicle get better driving range.

The upcoming Bolt is expected to compete against other electric vehicles including Tesla Model 3 and Nissan Leaf.

The GM plant at Orion Township presently produces Buick Verano and Chevrolet Sonic, and is reportedly producing fewer cars due to the sales crunches triggered by falling gasoline prices.
