Optare, a UK-based bus manufacturer, has launched a new double decker bus, MetroDecker, at Transport Museum in London.
The new double decker bus is said to have a low unladen weight of about 9.8t, achieved with a combination of lightweight stainless-steel body framing and light components.
MetroDecker bus is powered by the 5.1L four-cylinder dual stage turbo Mercedes-Benz OM934A engine paired to an six-speed fully automatic Ecolife gearbox, which would turn off the ignition automatically when the bus stops.
Optare is a subsidiary of India-based Hinduja Group's automobile manufacturer Ashok Leyland.
Hinduja Group Co-Chairman GP Hinduja said Optare is transforming itself into a truly international company, with the able support of Ashok Leyland.
"The Hinduja Group has invested heavily in Optare since taking a majority stake in 2012, consolidating all production in a new facility in Leeds," Hinduja added.
According to the company, about 90% of Optare's supply chain is based in Britain.
