Panasonic Reveals New Lumix GH5 Flagship CSC- and It'll Shoot in 6k

Panasonic has revealed its next Lumix flagship, the GH5, and it's a seriously impressive sounding camera, with the CSC poised to be the world's first camera to feature 4K video capture at 60p – and there's new '6K' photo capabilities on board as well.

To put that into perspective, the current-generation Lumix GH5 shoots 4K video at 30fps.

Showing off a prototype model at the Photokina 2016 photography show in Cologne, Germany, Panasonic said that the device will be released in the first-half of 2017.

The new 6K snaps are achieved by extracting a still image from a high-quality video (Panasonic claims the resolution is nine times sharper than Full HD) and are said to be equivalent to an 18-megapixel sensor.

As well as the bolstered 4K frame-rate, the GH5 will shoot 4K 30p with 4:2:2 10-bit colour sub-sampling – another key detail that should excite videographers.

Aimed at professionals and enthusiasts, we'd expect the GH5 to comfortably clear £1,000 – the GH4 was £1,300 when we reviewed it in 2014, by way of comparison.

Additional specifications are still to be confirmed, but news of a 6K Lumix GH5 further underlines Panasonic's long-term goal of developing an 8K-ready camera which it's hoping to introduce in time for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
