Thermo Fisher Scientific Introduced Suretect PCR System That Offers Test for Food Safety

US-based Thermo Fisher Scientific has introduced SureTect PCR system that offers test efficiencies for food safety laboratories involved in the testing of common bacterial pathogens.

With the new system, the food safety laboratories can achieve results for all targets and matrix types in less than 24 hours of the food sample being received, according to the company.

In order to streamline the test work flow, it combines a real-time PCR instrument with software and pre-filled reagent components together with a single PCR protocol for a range of common targets and sample types.

Thermo Fisher Scientific Microbiology Global Marketing vice president Sumi Thaker said the need to streamline test workflow and reduce time to result means that speed, ease-of-use, reliability and value for money are primary considerations in today's pathogen test selection.

"Over time, we've seen our customers' needs develop as they strive to meet increasing consumer and legislative demands, while continuing to gain cost efficiencies," Thaker added.

In addition, the company said that assays for Salmonella species and Listeria monocytogenes are now available, while the assays for Listeria species and Escherichia coli O157:H7 will be launched by the end of first quarter this year.
