Finland based food packaging firm Huhtamaki is planning to expand its footprint with a launch of new manufacturing and distribution center in Goodyear, Arizona, US with an investment of $100m.
The 750,000ft2 facility, which will serve foodservice packaging and retail tableware markets, is expected to create approximately 300 jobs.
The facility will be equipped to produce paper drink cups, insulated hot cups, food containers, pressed paperboard plates and thermoformed plastic cups and lids.
Over the next two years, the firm will invest in building modifications, infrastructure and equipment installation.
Huhtamaki North America executive vice-president Clay Dunn said: “This is a further investment in our strategy to serve the foodservice packaging and retail tableware markets with core products.
“The new facility will expand our footprint and will build off the success of our earlier expansions.”
Huhtamaki plans to commence distribution operations at the facility early next year while infrastructure work is planned to start in second quarter of 2017.
Huhtamaki North America operations vice-president Fred Betzen said: “This facility gives us the ability to continue on our path of building 21st century work environments that are good for our customers, employees and communities.”
The facility, which was purchased by Huhtamaki from Cohen Asset Management, is scheduled to start commercial production in late next year, the company said.
Huhtamaki is engaged in manufacturing packaging for consumer packaged goods. It also supplies tableware, cups, folding cartons, containers, carriers, trays and serviceware for the foodservice industry and retail market.
