Subaru, the automobile manufacturing division of Fuji Heavy Industries (FHI), has recalled over 5500 vehicles in Australia, due to a problem in wiring.

The recall affects 2459 units of the Subaru Impreza, 1455 units of XV and 1674 Forester models manufactured from 20 January 2012 to 09 April 2012.

Wiring problem in the vehicle arises due to misrouting of engine wiring harnesses that could lead to interference with the intake manifold retaining bolt or tumble generator valve at the time of normal vehicle operation.

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) product safety recalls website has published a notice, which showed that the issue poses a hazard to drivers and other road users as vehicles may idle rough or stall out.

According to the notice from ACCC, in the worst case scenario, the engine may stall and not restart, although steering and braking capacity will exist until the vehicle comes to a stop.
