Ford Along with Seven Other Automakers Participated in a Test

Ford along with seven other automakers participated in a test which will inform the car owners to temporarily stop charging their vehicles to avoid overloading of the power grid.

Participants included BMW, General Motors, Mercedes-Benz, Honda, Chrysler Group, Mitsubishi and Toyota; all the companies have their own line of electric vehicles.

The test held at Sacramento Municipal Utility Districts Customer Service Center, which was aimed at addressing the problems related to failure and overloading of the power grid, as electric vehicles tapping power from the grid grows.

USA Today cited that charging of vehicles during peak hours when power output is at its maximum level could result in blackout.

Sumitomo Electric along with other electric utilities tried to determine whether they could send a message to the electric vehicle to stop charging via cloud.

Ford said that the car owners could accept or refuse the request according to their requirement.
