Google is reportedly working on a new version of Android OS which can be integrated into cars, which will allow drivers to use internet without having to plug into a mobile device.
The search giant has not disclosed the details or the timeframe to put Android into cars but two people familiar with the matter told Reuters that the company intends to introduce the latest version of its operating system, called Android M, within a year.
With the launch of Android M, the chances are that the OS could end up becoming the well-accepted system powering the vehicle's entertainment features, which is expected to allow Google to access significant amount of data gathered by automobiles.
Direct use of Android into the vehicle will allow drivers use Google's services every time they turn on ignition, without requiring them to plug into their smartphones.
Google can also use vehicle's sensors, camera, and internet connections to gather further data, which is expected to help the automotive industry to come with further developments.
