Georg Fischer Automotive, the cast components and systems manufacturer for chassis, powertrain and body, has opened a new light weight auto components manufacturing facility in Mettmann, Germany.
The company has invested EUR36m to build the new manufacturing plant that produces chassis parts, rear axle housings and crankshafts for passenger and commercial vehicles.
GF Automotive said the new Mettmann plant has a capacity up to 60,000 tons of nodular cast iron.
The new production line, Aeration Moulding Robotpouring or AMR, will expand the light weight construction trend.
Georg Fischer CEO Yves Serra said, "The new, highly automated and very much eco-friendly manufacturing line yet again substantially boosts product quality and replaces two older facilities, thus decisively enhancing our competitiveness."
The new facility incorporates a built-in heat recovery system that will use waste heat to warm up the production building, while the electro motors will reduce the energy consumption by more than 40%.
