German automaker Daimler is planning to invest in commercial vehicle production in Brazil after winning an order for 2,884 heavy trucks from Brazilian agricultural development ministry.
Mercedes-Benz do Brasil, a subsidiary of German truckmaker Daimler Trucks, has received an order for 2,884 Mercedes-Benz Atron dump trucks from the Brazilian Ministry of Agrarian Development (MDA) on 21 October 2013.
The Mercedes Benz bus and trucks division will announce its investments for 2014 and 2015 on 27 October 2013.
For the nine months ending September 2013, Bus and heavy truck production in Brazil jumped nearly 50% compared to the same period in 2012, due to tax perks and government purchases.
This month, the German automaker also announced its plans to build a new production plant in Iracemápolis, Sao Paulo, Brazil, to manufacture Mercedes-Benz cars for the local market.
The company signed a framework contract with Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff for establishing the plant. It plans to invest €170m in the plant during the first phase.
The plant will produce the company's next-generation C-Class and GLA vehicles with the first production being planned in 2016.
