Japanese carmaker Nissan has reported 5% rise in its sales in Europe to 366,000 units during the initial six months of 2012, an increase of 18,000 units over the same period in 2011.

According to the carmaker, the overall customer demand in Europe during the period however declined 4.5% to 428,000 units when compared to 2011, due to the continuing economic uncertainty in Southern Europe.

Nissan Europe Sales Operations vice president Guillaume Cartier said the difficulties facing the European car market in 2012 are well-documented.

"Nissan designs, develops and produces an increasing number of vehicles within the region," Cartier said.

"More than 80% of our sales are of models manufactured at our plants in the UK, Spain and Russia."

Nissan also reported14% rise in its sales in June to 65,626 units over June 2011 and delivered a monthly share of 3.9% representing a 0.6% rise year-on-year.

Nissan's top performing markets for in June included Russia with over 14,000 sales and 11,000 vehicle sales were reported in the UK, while France reported 0.7% rise to 3.7% over June 2011.
