Danish dairy products producer Arla Foods has opened its €40m facility located in Nr. Vium, Denmark to strengthen its position in the global dairy protein hydrolysates sector.
The facility has a capacity to produce nearly 4,000 tonnes of whey and casein hydrolysates annually, offering ingredient solutions for applications in the infant, clinical and sports nutrition categories.
The plant features advanced manufacturing technology as well as pilot plants, analytical laboratories and research and development facilities.
Arla Foods Pediatric business unit director said: "Our new factory has been built from the ground up, with the single aim of producing the best dairy protein hydrolysate ingredients available anywhere in the world.
"Our solutions offer scientifically documented health benefits, excellent solubility, superb microbiology and uniform quality. Now we can also offer them in much greater volumes with complete security of supply."
In May, the company said that had developed a milk protein-based solution named Nutrilac HiYield, to help dairies to make optimum use of their milk in the manufacturing process, eliminating any by-products or waste.
HiYield is claimed to be a flexible solution which requires minimal to no adjustments to the existing production lines for common dairy products which include stirred yogurt and cream cheese as it eliminates the need for separation and filtration equipment.
Earlier this month, it extended its exclusive distribution agreement with G. Willi-Food International's subsidiary Gold Frost for one year.
The extension starts from the expiration in June 2017 of the existing distribution deal between the companies.
In February, the company announced a restructuring strategy, cutting 500 jobs across its global facilities.
Through the plan, Arla planned to record a 4% annual growth in its earnings till 2020.
