Swedish automobile manufacturer Volvo Car Group along with the natural gas engines manufacturer Westport Innovations has unveiled new Volvo V60 Bi-Fuel car at the NGV 2013 Gothenburg.
The new V60 Bi-Fuel is claimed to be a sporty estate car and can be powered by any of the two types of fuels, either the compressed natural gas (CNG) or petrol.
The vehicle is powered by an engine that generates an output of 213hp, while the Bi-Fuel system provides a total driving range of 1,120km and reduces greenhouse gas emissions with the use of renewable CNG as the vehicle fuel.
Westport executive vice president Ian Scott said the demand for natural gas vehicles in Sweden is expected to increase in response to the pending extension of the Government of Sweden alternative fuel tax incentive program.
"The launch of this product provides a new option for corporate and municipal fleet customers," Scott added.
Both the companies are planning to expand the Volvo V60 Bi-Fuel car into other markets after beginning the sales of the vehicle in October 2013 in Sweden.
Westport has been the sole supplier of natural gas fuel systems to Volvo Car Group since 2009, during which it has developed and installed natural gas systems for vehicles including Volvo V70 estate car at Volvo's production centre in Gothenburg, Sweden.
