Optoma Expects Its Projector Shipments to Increase Slightly in 2013

Taiwan-based projector vendor Optoma expects its projector shipments to increase slightly in 2013 by having an improved product mix as well as tackling education segments in emerging economies, according to the company's Asia-based manager Telly Kuo.

Optoma shipped about 700,000 projectors in 2012 to hold a global market share of 7.4%. Its revenues during the year were down 11.64% on year due to falling prices for projectors as well as to lack of demand for the technology in the market, but may rebound a bit in 2013 due to the company's strategies for the year, including the release of new 1080p 3D units.

Market observers also said that demand for large-size displays in 2013 is also likely to push projector demand for Optoma and other projector vendors.

The observers also added that Optoma expects to see decreased demand for projectors in the China market to about 10% growth on year during 2013 compared to previous years when on-year growth was between 10-20%.
